Common problems and routine maintenance on turbine flowmeters

Common problem 1: Large fluctuations on flow readings Once this problem happens, please check from below aspects:

1. Pulsating flow source

(1) Generally, if the flow meter installation position is close to the pump, it is easy to be affected by pulsating flows, which could make the flow fluctuation to be relatively large. We should increase the distance between the meter and the pumpe, make sure the flow is stablized when passing the meter.

(2) The installation position of the flowmeter is too close to the position of the valve or the elbow. When the fluid passes through the valves or the bent parts, the flow fluctuates. When should make sure there is enough straight pipe run between the meter and the valve or the bent parts.

2. Electrical interference

The motor, inverter, heavy current and other sources of interference near the flowmeter may interfer the readings. Solution: Ground the meter instrument or add a filter capacitor. If problem can't be solved, please keep the meter far enough from the source of interference.

No readings on the display

(1) Check if there is any problem with the line, such as the signal line falling off, broken line, etc.

(2) Detach the signal amplifier from the sensor, keep the signal amplifier connected to the converter, and use the ferrous metal to swipe back and forth at a distance of 2~3mm from the bottom of the amplifier. If the meter has readings, meaning the display part has no problem. Then remove the flow sensor from the pipe to check if the flowmeter impeller is entangled or damaged.

Readings are smaller than actual flows

This problem generally happens because that the impeller can't spin normally or there are broken vanes. Solution: remove the flow sensor from the pipe and check if the vanes are entangled or damaged.
